We asked Charlotte to tell us what she loves most about a Headwater walking trip, and her expert tips on getting the most from your holiday.
Our Contrasts of Cyprus Walking trip is my favourite. It has a fantastic combination of both walking in the mountains and along the coast. You’ll stay in friendly, locally run hotels and enjoy great, authentic food.
Being in the great outdoors, looking out for wildlife along the route and seeing different types of flora is a fantastic part of the trip. We enjoyed panoramic views and seeing historical sites such as the Baths of Aphrodite – plus visiting a local winery!
We pride ourselves on the wide range of local hotels you can experience, that definitely sets us apart. The Headwater Navigation App is also a great tool that we offer walkers. The app provides our comprehensively researched and carefully checked routes in an easy to use and convenient format. Walkers can follow text notes that appear, in the right place at the right time, for you to stop and read.
On one of the days, we did a shorter walk and so were back in the village in time for lunch, on other days we took a picnic and found pleasant spots to enjoy our lunch. Picnics were provided by the hotels and were always plentiful.
Walking days were between 3 and 6 hours, depending on length of walk and how many stops you make. You can stop as much as you like, our walking trips allow you to go completely at your own pace.
The variety of scenery is what makes this holiday special. You’ll see mountains, traditional villages; vineyards and the coast all in one trip.
Take water shoes! Some of the beaches are pebbly so getting in and out of the sea is much more comfortable with a pair of water shoes!
No, a good general level of fitness is all that is needed. The walks are designed to be able to go at your own pace so you can stop for breaks as much as you need, we also offer different levels of walking for those who want easier and for those who want more challenging walks.
I loved being up close to the Aletsch glacier in Switzerland, the sheer scale of it was amazing! – you can go here on our Walking the Valais Matterhorn Region trip.
Whether over a long weekend, an eight-day holiday or more, our tailor-made itineraries explore hidden off-the-tourist-trail gems, so you’re guaranteed to experience special moments – those times when you feel invigorated, refreshed and immersed in the culture of the region you’re visiting.
