Get an early start today and beat the queues at the Van Gogh or Anne Frank Museum. Then, ride to the historic city of Haarlem, with its delightful blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. From historic streets with medieval architecture to trendy shops and waterfront cafes. Whether you're a fan of art, history, shopping, or simply enjoying good food and scenery, Haarlem offers something for everyone.
Cycle along the River Zaan with its quaint old factories and warehouses. Look forward to seeing the beautiful windmills and green houses at Zaanse Schans, a quintessential Dutch experience, in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. The presence of windmills, Dutch cheese, and wooden clogs conjures images of a bygone era, preserved, and celebrated in this charming village. People still live and work here, keeping alive the oldest industrial traditions of the Netherlands. Explore the museums to learn about old crafts, offering insights into the craftsmanship that shaped the region's identity.
On your last ride, explore a water-rich natural landscape passing through extensive meadows and pastures. Picturesque villages add to the charm, offering opportunities to pause and soak in the local ambiance. As you continue your ride, encounter numerous country estates and fortifications each with their own story to tell. It is worth visiting Muiderslot, which holds a significant place in Dutch history. Founded in 1285, its square design, complete with round corner towers and moat, evokes images of medieval grandeur and fortification. Return to Amsterdam where you can continue exploring the city until your departure. Alternatively, add on some extra nights.
