Embark on perhaps the most well-known pilgrimage, Camino de Santiago, following the well-trodden 'French Way' or hugging the coast up through Portugal to the Holy Door of Santiago. In Italy, the Via Francigena provides idyllic walking through olive groves and medieval villages steeped in history, where all roads lead to Rome.
