TRIP DESCRIPTION

Cornwall is famous for its beautiful and impressive coastline, the longest in the United Kingdom and much of which is designated as 'An area of natural beauty' (AONB). The Cornish coast is punctuated by pretty fishing villages, many of which are still working today.

A wonderful walk along the Northern Cornish coastline awaits you on this 5 night holiday where you explore this magnificent coast between two of Cornwall's most famous summer get-aways, Padstow and Perranporth. You can really get to know the towns of Padstow and Newquay as you spend 3 nights in pretty Padstow and 2 nights in popular Newquay on this twin centre holiday with transfers included at the start and the end of the walks as required. Padstow is a charming and picturesque working fishing port, at the head of the Camel river and is well known for its fish restaurants and its connection to the TV chef Rick Stein. Perhaps take a visit to the Lobster Hatchery during your stay - it is dedicated to ensuring the survival of the European lobster in the local waters. Newquay is a thriving tourist town and is famous for its surfing beaches, there's plenty of shops and restaurants to visit during your stay here.

The walks takes in headland to cove and on to golden sands, the scenery changing as fast as the weather (well, it is Cornwall!). The shorter daily distances give plenty of time to soak up the views and the wild rocky coastline has to be seen to be believed. Keep your eyes peeled for the local sea life, especially the sea birds in abundance in this area. Watergate Bay, Bedruthan Steps, Holywell Bay and Newquay town beaches all add their atmosphere and charm to this great coastal walk.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Padstow

Arrive in Padstow. The fishing village of Padstow, with its picturesque harbour and dramatic coastline, is famed for the quality of its restaurants and cafes - even its fish and chip shops! There will be ample time to try a few of them out during your three night stay here

You stay at The Old Custom House.

Fresh, local fish and seafood are served in the stylish restaurant and the large, traditional bar serves hearty pub food and local real ales.

Day 2: Padstow to Trevone Circular Walk (12km/7.5mi)

A short but rewarding circular walk and a fine introduction to the Cornish Coast Path. After traversing the estuarine beaches and calm blue waters at the mouth of the River Camel, the barren cliffs of Trevose Head provide a stark contrast, setting the tone for the wilder coast ahead before returning to Padstow via inland footpaths and country lanes

Day 3: Trevone to Porthcothan (13km/8.1mi)

With six beaches, one mighty headland and numerous sandy coves, the chances that you will take all day to cover this short and incredibly beautiful section are high. It is an easy and pleasant walk but on a sunny day the temptation to enjoy the sand or dip your toes in the sea can be too much. From the calm and sheltered (not to mention curiously named) Mother Ivey's to the wild and surf battered Booby's Bay (Booby is a local name for the gannet), there is good variety to be found even on such a short walk. Transfers at the start and end of the day

Day 4: Porthcothan to Newquay (17km/10.6mi)

High cliffs and striking headlands dominate this section of the North coast. After a transfer to Porthcothan, once again the dramatic scenery is softened at regular intervals by long (and popular) beaches. With a blend of interesting geology, archaeology and stunning views, this walk remains fascinating throughout. With two popular resorts; Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth en route, the beautiful and fascinating Bedruthan Steps, dozens of small islands and thousands of sea birds, the miles seem to slip by until you arrive at the ever-popular Newquay, your home for the next two nights.

You stay at The Esplanade Hotel.

REVIEWS

Excellent help from the agent, Tony.
Very knowledgeable & helpful.
She was able to clarify many points & provided detailed train information for our transfers.

Martine Pariset Shepherd, 12 Mar 2024

We had a hugely enjoyable time in 2023 on the White Villages of Andalucia trip with Headwater. Therefore we decided to book a couple more trips with Headwater. The booking process went smoothly thanks to personalised support from Andrew Palmer. We are hoping our 2024 Headwater experience’s will be as enjoyable as Andalucia.
